Infant Feeding & Lactation Counseling
Initial consultations are comprehensive at Schie Speech. The assessment may include any of the following: an infant oral assessment; feeding observations; parent mental health / bonding screenings; and infant cognitive, communication, and motor assessment. Treatment will include oral sensorimotor stimulation, neuromuscular education, wound care (if applicable), speech and feeding therapies, therapeutic/intentional tummy time, handling techniques, and manual facilitations in order to enhance social infant-maternal autonomic co-regulation for bonding-attachment, sensory modulation, nutritive feeding, and early communication skills.
Based on the parent-infant dyad’s presentation, the team may recommend collaboration with a diverse care team.

What is a Lactation Counselor?
The Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC®) certification identifies a professional in lactation counseling who has demonstrated the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities to provide breastfeeding counseling and management support to families who are thinking about breastfeeding or who have questions or problems during the course of breastfeeding/lactation.
How does speech-language pathology help with infants?
Speech-language pathologists are qualified to diagnose and treat swallowing disorders as early as infancy. Many times infants with feeding issues are at risk for developmental speech and language delays, therefore oral motor, motor, feeding, and early communication is addressed during the initial consultation.
What makes Schie Speech’s approach different from others?
Speech takes a collaborative approach to treating infants with feeding problems to ensure global infant development and maternal mental health is addressed.
